What is Laternenfest?
German children and families celebrate St. Martin’s day in early November to commemorate the good deeds of St. Martin. Kinderhaus has picked up on this tradition to throw a party.
Will there be a lantern procession (German tradition)?
No. For logistical and safety reasons, we will not be parading through the neighborhood. However, we will have a sing-a-long at 7pm(lyrics provided!), so bring your latern and be ready to belt it out!
Where / when will the event happen?
In the parking lot of Matthew’s Lutheran Church (3281 16th St.) on 11/6, from 6:00pm – 9:00pm.
Do I need to RSVP?
While not mandatory, we’d HIGHLY appreciate if you could RSVP on the Facebook Event page, so we get a good count. Helps for planning!
Is there a cover, do I need to buy a ticket?
No cover charge. Food and drinks can be purchased “a la carte” at reasonable prices at the event.
Is this event kids friendly?
Yes! We will have pony rides, crafts, and kids drinks. But parents are still responsible for supervision and there will be alcohol served on the premises. wink emoticon
What about adults?
Adults are most welcome. We’ll have Gluehwein, beer, pretzels, and Turkish food.
Transportation? Parking? Restrooms? Pets?
We encourage the use of public transportation as street parking is tight in the Mission. Cross streets are 16th and Dolores. St. Matthews has restrooms for life’s little emergencies. No pets please.
